Kare Kano is about the lives of Yukino and other people at her school. The first part of the series focuses on the relationship between Yukino and Arima Souichiro.
Yukino Miyazawa has two different personalities. At school she is Miss Perfection. Teachers pet, most populare student. She gets the highest grades, looks the best and walks around loving it all. She is the object of admiration and adoration. On the other hand at home she is a slob and lazy in everything but studying to keep up her image. It's her secret self she hides from her peers.
Then Arima comes to the school and starts getting better grades. Yukino is furious. She studies really hard to beat him and he doesn't even care that he lost. He just congradulates her. Then he finds out her little secret and the rest is the great anime that you should watch.
Yukino may be the most popular student in the school but until later episodes she has no real friends. She studies so hard that she has no time to just hang out. While she helps all her classmates with their homework and talks with them in the halls she is really alone. She does have her crazy family though.
Arima brings out the real Yukino in later episodes. She starts to act like herself, not caring (too much) what her peers think. He helps her to get over her need to be the object of admiration and adoration of everyone. She starts having normal relationships showing (mostly) her true self. She even gains friends (after some difficulties with students conspirizing against her monopoly of the two good looking men in the school) and then the story focuses on those students more.
Yukino Miyazawa is on the outside what a lot of people wish to be but on the inside what we all are. She is a great character.
